How Many Times Does An Angel Fall – Sunset, Sunday, 20 March 2016

William Van Doren, HOW MANY TIMES DOES AN ANGEL FALL. Sunset from Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va. Oil on canvas, 20 x 20.

Original thought in working with a leaden overcast was something along the lines of “attempted alchemy,” but it just didn't work out that way. Title is from “Blackstar,” the song by David Bowie.

Avenue/Daylight Extended/Ended – Sunset, Saturday, 19 March 2016

William Van Doren, AVENUE/DAYLIGHT EXTENDED/ENDED. Sunset from York Road and Nicoll Avenue, Baltimore, Md. Oil on canvas, 28 x 30.

My view was of the western terminus of a street (Nicoll Avenue) in northern Baltimore, looking across York Road. Overcast and snowing. A detailed picture of the buildings and trees on Nicoll is hidden underneath all the paint, and then just barely reiterated in stylized fashion on top.
