Southwest Mountains from Burnt Mill Road (Afternoon, 1 July 2011)

William Theodore Van Doren, SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS FROM BURNT MILL ROAD. Oil on wood panel, 11 x 14.

I’ve just launched a new gallery called “New and Recent” – starting with this painting from yesterday. It’s going for $75 and at 11x14 fits a standard frame.

North Light (Sunset, Monday, 20 June 2011)

William Theodore Van Doren, NORTH LIGHT (Sunset from Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va.) Oil on watercolor block, 13 x 19.

With multiple blankets of cloud draped everywhere else, I sighted even farther north than the near-solstice sun would normally dictate, over nearby Piney Mountain.

Upon This Bank and Shoal of Time (Sunset, Saturday, 18 June 2011)

William Theodore Van Doren, UPON THIS BANK AND SHOAL OF TIME (Sunset from Staunton, Va.) Oil on watercolor block, 13 x 19.

Actually I was not so much upon a bank as I was on top of a parking garage looking WSW in Staunton, Va., during intermission of American Shakespeare Center’s terrific Macbeth at Blackfriars Playhouse. If you haven’t seen a show at Blackfriars, you’re missing a great experience.

Bingham Mountain (Sunset, Sunday, 24 April 2011)

William Van Doren, BINGHAM MOUNTAIN (Sunset from Simmons Gap Road & Dyke Road, Albemarle County, Va.) Oil on watercolor block, 13 x 19.

Basically the only thing I could see from where I was at sunset, as clouds rolled in on what had been a beautiful Easter Sunday, was Bingham Mountain, a small (1300') peak in front of the Blue Ridge between Nortonsville and Dyke, Virginia. I’m a fan of small mountains, and I love this one.
